    Is English a Lively “TONGUE”?

Acquiring the proficiencies of a foreign language require KNOWLEDGE. Yes, knowledge is power, they say, BUT in truth, knowledge is insight. The same holds true when learning English. It is of the utmost importance for learners to gain good insights.

There was a time in our young lives, where we go to school and learn the various necessary knowledge to better equip us when the time comes to face the big, wide world. This season of preparation is termed as education. And education is knowledge. Look how the world has advanced in intellectual civilization where people can communicate with one another through various languages!

So, why am I writing about knowledge? Knowledge is the key to learning a language. Have you ever noticed how well you can speak in English when you are talking about a subject theme that is familiar to you? On the other hand, have you ever wondered how you seem to have your tongue-tied or you were baffled by something that you do not know, and therefore you had a blank mind?

So, what does this mean? Will the amount of knowledge you have affect your ability to speak English? By jove, why, Yes! The English language is a living ‘tongue’. The ability to grasp the fluency of the English language is by acquiring the knowledge of the origin of the language and that includes the people and their mindsets, its culture, the land, and its history. The ‘tongue’ speaks the language of the heart; therefore, to be able to speak English with eloquence requires the heart knowledge of the English origins and its history, culture and its people.

The good news is you do not need to search too far. Whenever you watch a movie, listen to some songs, or talk to foreigners, grasp the ideas. Do not simply talk what you want to say but understand the heart of the subject through the English language. There is a saying,

“Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

The language of the ‘tongue’ expresses your mind and what comes from your mind, comes from the heart. Indeed to speak with fluency, one ought to speak from the heart: “A wise man's heart guides his mouth”.
